All BrewOps sensors ship in a low-power "sleeping" state to conserve battery life. To wake up the sensor:
- Unscrew the cover and locate the top button.
- Press the button once – you should see the lights blink, indicating that the sensor has woken up.
- Open the BrewOps app and find your sensor to begin using it.
- If the sensor's lights do not blink, or you still cannot communicate with it, the battery may need to be replaced.
Proceed to Battery Life & Replacement
BrewOps sensors use a long-life, 20 amp-hour battery, optimized for industrial environments. Battery lifespan depends on sensor type and usage:
- BrewOps Steam & Chill: ~3+ years (low power consumption, minimal app communication).
- BrewOps Purge, DO, & Rinse: Battery life varies based on frequency of activity. Frequent use drains power faster.
Important: Always use the Vitzrocell battery, which has been tested for maximum performance.
Purchase from the BrewOps Store or a preferred distributor.
Using an incorrect battery type (chemistry or voltage) may damage the BrewOps sensor or cause it to malfunction.
- Unscrew the cover and locate the battery retaining clip.
- Use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry off the clip (it is intentionally tight for vibration resistance).
- Press down on the top of the battery and rock it forward to remove it.
- Insert a fresh battery, ensuring there are no packaging materials obstructing the terminals.
- Reattach the retaining clip and screw the cover back on.
Pro Tip: Apply grease/lubricant to the black O-ring on the cover to maintain a proper seal.
- When inserting a new battery, the sensor lights should blink bright green.
- If the lights do not blink, check the following:
- Battery Type: Ensure you are using a Lithium Thionyl Chloride 3.6V battery.
- Battery Placement: Check for any packaging materials obstructing the terminals.
- Clip Security: The battery clip must be fully reattached for proper contact.

Proceed to Sensor Communication
- BrewOps sensors only communicate via the BrewOps app.
- Do not attempt to pair the sensor through your phone’s Bluetooth settings – this is intentionally restricted.
- Use only the BrewOps app to connect and configure your sensors.
If you are having trouble communicating with a sensor:
✅ Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
✅ Move within 50 feet of the sensor for a stable connection.
✅ Restart the BrewOps app and try again.
For troubleshooting a specific sensor, refer to the sensor pages linked below:

Before using the BrewOps sensors, ensure you have completed these steps:
-
Download the BrewOps App
-
Accept All Permissions
- The app requires Bluetooth and Location Access to connect to sensors.
- If permissions were denied, go to your phone’s settings and re-enable them manually.
-
Log Into the App
- Enter your mobile phone number.
- A one-time PIN (OTP) will be sent via SMS—enter it to log in.
- No email/password combinations to remember!
Using a Shared Tablet? Log in using the phone number assigned to a brewer role, not brewmaster.
Proceed to Setting Up Your Brewery
- Create a new brewery (automatically makes you the brewmaster).
- Join an existing brewery (must be invited by a brewmaster).
- Brewmaster – Full control, can add/remove users and manage all settings.
- Brewer – Can add/remove equipment and manage brewing activities.
- Guest – Can only view data, no modification rights.
Only the Brewmaster can add new members to the brewery. If a role transfer is needed, contact solutions@brewops.com using your company email and include the new brewmaster’s name and phone number.
The BrewOps Gateway is a plug-and-play device that connects BrewOps sensors to the cloud. It listens for sensor data via Bluetooth and transmits it using cellular connectivity.
- Automatic Setup: Just mount it, plug it in, and it configures itself.
- Cellular Connectivity: Uses the strongest available network; no need for Wi-Fi.
- Backup Battery: Runs for up to 12 hours during power outages.
- Status Lights for Easy Troubleshooting.
If cellular coverage is unavailable at your brewery, contact solutions@brewops.com for assistance.
- Secure the gateway to a wall or post.
- Face it towards your BrewOps sensors for optimal reception.
- Once powered, the gateway will flash red, blue, and green as it starts up.
- It will then search for the strongest cellular signal.
¶ Understanding the Gateway Status Lights
Indicator |
Blink Pattern |
Status Description |
🔴 🔵 🟢 |
Flashes in sequence |
Gateway is powering on |
🟢 |
Blinking |
Searching for cellular signal (can take up to 10 minutes) |
🟢 |
Solid |

🔴 |
Solid |
No cellular signal detected – try moving the gateway |
If the red light remains solid after several minutes, move the gateway closer to a window or a higher location. If the issue persists, contact solutions@brewops.com for assistance.
- When a BrewOps sensor sends data, the gateway blinks blue.
- This helps determine the best placement—move sensors and watch for blue flashes.
