The BrewOps Chill was designed to be a simple and fast-to-install pipe temperature monitoring system.
We understand that chillers are the lifeblood of a brewery cellar, yet they often go unmonitored. While new chillers include remote monitoring, existing chillers do not—making a reliable retrofit solution critical.
The BrewOps Chill solves this by clamping onto any conductive pipe and measuring pipe wall temperature using:
- A high-accuracy temperature sensor
- Thermal heat transfer putty that couples the sensor and metal housing to the pipe
- Insulation to reduce external temperature swings caused by changing outdoor conditions
Brewers worldwide rely on the BrewOps Chill to monitor:
- Outdoor chiller pipes for glycol circulation monitoring
- Indoor glycol reservoirs and circulators for real-time system checks
- Brewhouse heat exchangers to track knockout efficiency
- Cold liquor tank usage—preventing unnecessary activation when target temperatures can be reached without it
By eliminating guesswork, brewers can prevent costly chiller failures, especially during off-hours.
When paired with the BrewOps Edge Gateway, users can:
- Track historical temperatures effortlessly
- Receive instant alerts anywhere in the world if alarm criteria are met
The BrewOps Chill is a simple solution to a potentially catastrophic problem—ensuring breweries stay operational, even if a chiller issue arises.

Proper installation of the BrewOps Chill is critical for accurate temperature readings and long-term reliability. Follow these steps to ensure a secure and effective installation.
- Mark the insulation for removal
Pro Tip: Before cutting, press the BrewOps Chill onto the insulation to create an outline circle.
- Remove insulation carefully
- Using a sharp knife, cut just inside the marked outline to ensure a snug fit around the BrewOps Chill.
- Expose the metal pipe surface
- Ensure the pipe wall is clean and free from debris for optimal heat transfer.
- Place the BrewOps Chill firmly onto the pipe, ensuring direct metal-to-metal contact.
- Adjust the orientation for best performance:
- Ideal Positioning: Install at a 45° to 90° vertical angle when possible.
- This allows condensation to exit the weep holes in the metal housing.
- Avoid blocking the weep holes, as trapped condensation can cause permanent water damage to the sensor.
Pro Tip: If your setup requires a different angle, make sure condensation can still escape freely.
- Wrap the supplied 6” hose clamp around the device and pipe.
- Tighten the clamp securely, ensuring a firm, stable connection between the sensor and pipe.
- Confirm proper contact
- The sensor should not shift when lightly pressed.
- There should be no gaps between the BrewOps Chill and the pipe surface.
✅ Is the device firmly attached?
✅ Is the sensor in full contact with the pipe?
✅ Are the weep holes unobstructed?
✅ Is the device positioned at an optimal angle (45°–90° vertical)?
Once installed, the BrewOps Chill is ready to start monitoring and providing real-time temperature insights via the BrewOps App.
The BrewOps Chill seamlessly integrates with the BrewOps App, allowing brewers to monitor chiller efficiency and detect potential failures before they escalate. Follow the steps below to set up, configure, and manage the Entering and Leaving temperature sensors.
- Open the BrewOps App and select the Chiller you want to monitor.
- Tap either the Entering or Leaving icon located in the upper middle above the equipment image.
- A list of available BrewOps Chill sensors will appear. Select the sensor you plan to use.
- Each sensor will have a description indicating whether it is assigned to a chiller and whether it is monitoring Entering or Leaving temperature.
- The sensor status bar will change as follows:
- Grey → Not connected
- Yellow → Connecting
- Green → Connected
- The sensor’s LED lights will blink blue when successfully connected.
- Tap Next to continue.
-
Set the Temperature Threshold (°F)
- Use the slider or the +/- buttons to define the minimum and maximum temperature thresholds for your equipment.
- Any temperature outside of these parameters will trigger an alarm.
- Indicator Bar:
- Blue → Temperature is within threshold.
- Red → Temperature is outside threshold.
-
Set the Alarm Delay
- Choose a delay time (0–60 minutes) before the alarm activates.
Pro Tip: Set a 1–2 minute delay to prevent nuisance alarms from brief fluctuations.
- Tap Save at the bottom of the screen.
- Once the Entering sensor connects, a green “Success” pop-up will confirm the session has started.
- Remain near the sensor for 30 seconds to ensure successful settings upload.
- The icon above the equipment will turn from grey → green, indicating the session is active.
- Temperature (°F) Display:
- Blue → Within threshold
- Red → Outside threshold
- Tap the Entering icon and select Edit Activity to return to the Activity Settings screen.
- Tap the Entering icon and select Check for Update to ensure your sensor firmware is current.
- Tap Done to return to the equipment page.
- Tap the Entering icon and select Remove Sensor.
- A warning message will appear:
“This action is not reversible. Are you sure you want to delete this sensor?”
- Tap Yes to remove the sensor or Cancel to return.
- Once removed, the sensor must be reconfigured if it is to be used again.
- The icon above the equipment will turn from green → grey, indicating the sensor has been disconnected.
